Masque Lune Africain Att. Luba/Baluba, Congo RDC, bois sculpté, perles

Grand masque africain "Masque Lune", artisanal et vintage, XXe siècle, circa années 1950–1970, attribué à la culture Luba/Baluba, République Démocratique du Congo. Travail artisanal en bois sculpté, recouvert d’un enduit noir, de forme circulaire, orné d’un décor géométrique composé de perles de verre colorées et d’incrustations de laiton, formant des motifs triangulaires. Visage présentant des yeux étroits en fentes horizontales, une bouche rectangulaire ouverte et un petit nez. Le revers montre des traces d’outils et de taille manuelle.
 
29,5cm de diamètre, environ 7cm de profondeur, environ 1 kg. Bel état général. Craquelures visibles de l’enduit sous la bouche, au-dessus de l’œil droit et sous le nez. Craquelures du bois en partie haute et basse au revers. Usures et marques du temps cohérentes avec l’âge et le matériau. Usure en partie haute, probablement liée à un ancien système d’attache, légèrement visible. Globalement, l’enduit noir se décolle du bois sur les rebords et autour des ouvertures, sans casse, et reste bien en place. Environ 1kg.

Large African "Moon Mask," handcrafted and vintage, 20th century, circa 1950s–1970s, attributed to the Luba/Baluba culture, Democratic Republic of Congo. Handcrafted from carved wood, covered with a black coating, circular in shape, adorned with a geometric design composed of colored glass beads and brass inlays, forming triangular patterns. The face features narrow eyes in horizontal slits, an open rectangular mouth, and a small nose. The reverse shows traces of tools and hand carving. 
 
29.5 cm in diameter, approximately 7 cm deep, approximately 1 kg. Good overall condition. Visible cracks in the coating under the mouth, above the right eye, and under the nose. Cracking in the wood at the top and bottom of the reverse. Wear and signs of age consistent with the age and material. Slight wear at the top, likely from a previous fastening system. Overall, the black coating peels off the wood at the edges and around the openings without breaking, and stays firmly in place. Approximately 1 kg.
