Grand trompe l'oeil melon/pastèque céramique
Genialissime et rare grand trompe l'oeil ancien, figurant un gros melon ou une pastèque (certainement pas une papaye) vert avec une part coupée. Céramique, faïence ou majolique artisanale pas de certitude sur l'origine, très probablement Italie début XXe ou anterieur. Il se place la "tranche" vers le haut, au milieu de cette dernière se trouve 22 orifices dont l'utilité n'est pas évidente, mais il pourrait bien s'agir d'un pique fleurs. Forme ovale polylobée et texturée comme une peau de courges peinte à la main et vernissée dans les tons vert foncé, jaune pâle, marbré. Centre/tranche orangé et jaune. Petite queue marron. Dessous plat. Environ 29cm de longueur max, environ 15cm de largeur max, pour 16-16,5cm de hauteur max. Très bel état général, très petites et rares marques du temps ou fabrication extrêment discrètes (tout petits chocs, vernis ternis par le temps) et patine. Un défaut de fabrication sous le socle, craquelure relativement importante de cuisson, assez profonde, je pense donc qu'elle ne tient pas l'eau, pique fleurs pour bouquets de fleurs sèches donc. Défaut peu gênant et pas voyant cependant puisque sous le dessous. Environ 1kg relativement léger pour sa taille. Il semble qu'un cachet en relief soit apposé sur la craquelure mais pas de certitudes, illisible.
🇬🇧 Large ceramic melon/watermelon trompe l'oeil
Brilliant and rare large antique trompe l'oeil, depicting a large green melon or watermelon (certainly not a papaya) with a cut slice. Ceramic, earthenware or handcrafted majolica, no certainty about the origin, most likely Italy, early 20th century or earlier. It is placed with the "edge" facing upwards, in the middle of the latter are 22 holes whose use is not obvious, but it could well be a flower pick. Oval shape, multi-lobed and textured like a squash skin, hand-painted and glazed in shades of dark green, pale yellow, marbled. Orange and yellow center/edge. Small brown tail. Flat bottom. Approximately 29cm in maximum length, approximately 15cm in maximum width, for 16-16.5cm in maximum height. Very good general condition, very small and rare marks of time or extremely discreet manufacturing (very small shocks, varnish tarnished by time) and patina. A manufacturing defect under the base, relatively large firing crack, quite deep, so I think it does not hold water, flower spike for bouquets of dried flowers therefore. Defect not very annoying and not visible however since it is under the bottom. About 1kg relatively light for its size. It seems that a raised stamp is affixed on the crack but no certainty, illegible.
