Vendus ensembles, indissociables.
🇬🇧 Pair of Malagasy busts carved from exotic wood, craftsmanship from the 1960s-70s
A beautiful pair of busts in solid exotic wood, brown with reddish hues, likely rosewood from Madagascar, with visible wood grain and a glossy varnish finish. Hand-carved, Malagasy craftsmanship, probably Zafimaniry from the Ambositra region. A couple, woman and man, with exquisite detail, particularly in the headdresses. These are very high-quality pieces. Vintage, 1960s-70s, unsigned.
The woman is 19.5cm high, 7cm wide at its widest point, and 9cm deep at its deepest point; the man is slightly larger (difference in millimeters). They are in very good overall condition, however, both have minor imperfections, generally discreet. One corner of the woman's headdress is worn, as is a more subtle corner on the front. The front of the man's bust has a small chip, and both have a mark on the right side of the neck where the varnish was removed by tape. These areas have been treated and re-varnished, and the results are relatively inconspicuous. Other minor signs of wear consistent with age: the right side of the woman's face and headdress is slightly darker, likely due to the natural wood grain. Approximately 1 kg each. Sold together, inseparable.
